Lady, 38, Arrested For Buying Stolen Goods At Aswani Market
Police operatives from Aswani Division led by CSP Oyin Francess have arrested a 38-year old lady, Chinasa Sampson, who specialized in buying stolen goods from load carriers at Aswani Market in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Chinasa, was arrested alongside a load carrier, Abah Nasiru, 25, who implicated her that she was his major buyer whenever they stole goods during market days.
Nasiru was said to have stolen one bag containing clothes worth N160,000 belonging to Patience Odun and sold it to Chinasa for N20,000 at give away price.
He was said to have been doing so during market days when he will pretend to be a loader and offer to carry goods for traders at the market and then escape with their goods and sold them to Chinasa.
However, the owner of the stolen goods later identified Nasiru, raised alarm which attracted the market union and was handed over to the Police; Nasiru then confessed and linked Chinasa as the buyer.
She was subsequently tracked, arrested and brought to the Police Station for interrogation.
During interrogation, she admitted that she bought some items from Nasiru despite knowing he was not a trader at the market.
The Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Isolo Magistrates Court along with Nasiru for stealing.
Nasiru pleaded guilty and still named Chinasa as the buyer but she pleaded not guilty for the alleged offence.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, asked the Court to adjourn and give a date to enable him to present the facts of the matter on Nasiru in order to sentence him accordingly then for trial of Chinasa for the Police to prove that she actually committed the offence as charged.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Akokhia, ordered Nasiru to be remanded in prison custody for facts and sentence on a later date while Chinasa was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
